Q5/SQ5 MKI (8R) Discussion - Q5 TDI with glow plug indicator flashing - I'm at 4000 miles and the glow plug indicator started flashing while on the highway last weekend. Pulled over, stopped, started and no recurrence. It just happened again, but this time I noticed a slight hesitation in power.
Begin by disconnecting wiring to the #2 cylinder glow plug, and placing the DVOM on ohms before touching the red lead to the glow plugs empty terminal and grounding the black lead. The range must be .5 to 2.0 ohms. Next, the mechanic must consider resistance in the glow plug wire and the relay buss bar on the valve cover.

Re: Glow plug relay location – 20-02-2008, 08:43 PM. rather than change the relay put a voltmeter accross the glow plug terminal and earth and you should get 11volts for about 10 seconds. If not the change the relay.
